TTBS fundraising and festivities

Published:  11 November, 2009

SOLIHULL: The Timber Trade's Benevolent Society (TTBS) has organised a number of events over the coming weeks to help celebrate the Christmas period while helping those less fortunate to enjoy the festive season too.

Founded at a time when works pensions were almost unheard of and the state provided little to help in old age, the Society has developed over the last 100 plus years from providing small cash allowances for the needy into an organisation which now assists with heating bills, telephone line rental, TV licences and by providing hampers and Christmas gifts as well as continuing to provide a regular cash payment to supplement the still meagre state provisions for the sick and elderly.

It is funded from investment income, regular contributions from firms, individuals and organisations connected to the timber trade and by running fundraising events regionally and nationally.
