Merchant sales slumped in Q1

UK: Builders' merchants sales nationally were down 4.2% for the three months December-February 2009-10, when adjusted for both price and inflation.

This was compared with the same three months in 2008-09. The figures were down 8.4% when compared with the preceding three-month period September-November 2009.

The 12-month comparison is down 11.9% over the previous 12-month period and the monthly comparison is up 1.1% over February last year.
