Police warning to builders’ merchants

Published:  10 June, 2009

THE WIRRAL: Merseyside police, working with detectives from the Cheshire police force, are investigating …

a number of incidents in the area where false trade accounts have been opened at builders’ merchants.

In all cases, a group of men have visited merchant sites in the Wirral and the Cheshire area to open trade accounts. They have provided addresses where goods have been delivered to but no payment has been made and the personal details provided have proven to be false.

Detective inspector George Davies said: "We are appealing to builders’ merchants in the area to be on their guard and to ensure that full checks are carried out before opening any new trade accounts.

"The men involved in these incidents are believed to be from the area."

If anyone has any information about these incidents, contact detectives at Birkenhead CID on 0151 777 2265 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
