Merchants are targets as robberies rise.

Ridgeons robbed

Published:  11 June, 2010

CAMBRIDGE: Police have released CCTV images of two men they want to trace suspected of attacking a security worker in Cambridge and stealing thousands of pounds from Ridgeons builders' merchants in Nuffield Road.

The men attacked a security guard on Tuesday at about 3pm as he collected a cash box from the merchant.

The two attackers fled in a dark blue Volkswagen Polo that turned on to Milton Road and then on to the A10. It was later seen parked in Ely opposite the One-Stop shop in West End.

Both men were seen walking away from the vehicle towards St Mary's Street and Cambridge Road.

Det Con Matt Bailey said: "I am appealing for anyone who was in the area when this robbery happened to consider if they saw the men described or anything suspicious.

"We know there were people in Ely when the car was abandoned and we have not yet recovered the cashbox."
