COLCHESTER: Six hard-working young staff members at East Anglian building materials supply company Kent Blaxill were recently presented with certificates for the Institute of Learning and Management (ILM) Level 3 award in First Line Management.
Simon Blaxill, Kent Blaxill managing director, presented the awards in front of directors, students and the managers of the students.
The students were: Laura Bridge, lightside/Dec Colchester; Michael Andrews, internal sales team, Colchester; David Hobrough, heavyside, Colchester; Paul Meek, glazier, Colchester; Shane Artingstall, Norwich; and Jonathan Harman, Bury St Edmunds.
The ILM Level 3 qualification is specially designed to give aspiring first line managers a solid foundation in their formal development as a manager. The qualification gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge, and understanding required in management.
The ILM training continued while the staff members were gaining hands-on experience in their own particular jobs. Each module consisted of a half-day workshop followed by an assignment. The assignments were based on the student’s workplace experience.
Human Resources manager David Plowman said: “The students, who work in a number of areas and in different branches within Kent Blaxill, had to put in a lot of time and effort into the course and are to be congratulated on their achievement. It is hoped that the students will progress to the next stage of the qualification.”
