LONDON: Sir Robert McAlpine has won the £60m contract to redevelop mining giant Rio Tinto's former west London headquarters into a luxury residential and office complex says Constructionenquirer.com.

Work will involve demolition and redevelopment of 6 St James's Square to provide 10,600sq m of new offices, an art gallery and 14 residential units within a seven storey building in one of London's most exclusive neighbourhoods.

The firm was bidding against rivals Bovis Lend Lease, Galliford Try, Laing O'Rourke and Skanska for the prestigious scheme in London's St James's Square.

The 36-month contract is expected to start once the existing building has been demolished.
