DIY retailers pin hopes on extra Bank Holiday peak

Published:  28 April, 2011

NORTHAMPTON: Wickes, B&Q and other DIY retailers are hoping for record sales over the two Bank Holiday weekends this month.

Retailers usually experience three 'peaks' at this time of year, caused by Easter and the two May bank holidays. But this year may see a fourth surge in sales caused by the extra holiday due to the royal wedding.

However, according to the Financial Times, some analysts question whether overall sales will be boosted and the Bank Holiday will simply bring forward purchases that usually take place in May.
