Go-ahead for £70m Longbridge scheme

Birmingham: The City Council had granted planning approval for the new £70m Longbridge town centre development.

St. Modwen and its partner Advantage West Midlands will now deliver the scheme in three phases with construction to start by the end of the year.

The first phase will contain a Sainsbury's store, car park, one-hectare urban park and elements of the new high street. Phases two and three comprise an 80-bed hotel, 40 apartments, further retail space and car parking.

The town centre scheme is part of a wider £1bn regeneration of the former home of car giant MG Rover.
