Merchant business gets new life after takeover

SCOTTISH BORDERS: Two local men have taken over a builders' merchants and retail store that was due to close.

Barrie Finn and Davie Paterson were both facing redundancy when North of England company Longhorn announced it was shutting its Mansfield Road outlet. But they have taken over the business and created Border Hardware.

Former Greens player Barrie, who had worked for Longhorn for nine-and-a-half years said: "We were both wondering what we were going to do for jobs when we came up with the idea to run it ourselves. It won't be easy but it's a good business."
