UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant opens branch in Kent

DEAL: MKM has recently opened its first Kent branch at Deal, on the newly redeveloped Deal Business Park. The branch has created 12 jobs for local people including sales people, drivers and plumbing specialists.
MKM aims to be a ‘one stop shop’ for all of its customers’ building, landscaping, plumbing and timber materials. The Hull-based company now has 38 branches throughout the UK, each of which is run and managed by local, experienced staff.
As well as offering a wide range of building supplies, MKM’s newest branch in Deal also boasts a comprehensive plumbing department and bathroom showroom with experts on hand to provide specialist advice.
It has taken approximately one year to set up the branch, which officially opened to the trade and public on Monday 25th June 2012. To celebrate the opening, MKM Deal is offering a series of special discounts ranging from timber and plaster to cement and underground pipe.
MKM Deal will be run by branch directors Andy Davies and Tom Rose. Mr Davies has over 30 years of industry experience and is a former area manager for a national chain of builders’ merchants.
Mr Rose also worked at a national builders’ merchant for 3 ½ years before making the move to MKM. He is a timber specialist and is looking forward to the freedom of managing an independent builders’ merchant branch, as he explains: “I was attracted to MKM because the company is committed to offering a personal, one-to-one service. Its motto is ‘local people serving local people’, which I believe sets MKM apart from other national builders’ merchants. Being an independent branch, we will have more freedom to trade with our customers and offer them the best possible deals. We have handpicked a great group of experienced staff, who are thrilled to be part of this exciting project.
“It has taken a year of hard work and determination, but it has been worth it. We’re looking forward to supplying the trade and public with what they want, when they want and how they want, on an everyday basis.”
David Kilburn, chief executive of MKM, commented: “We have picked a fantastic group of experts to manage and run MKM Deal. This is our first branch in Kent and our 38th branch in the UK. MKM Deal is the latest branch to open as part of our national expansion strategy and we are delighted to be helping create more jobs for local people.”
