Daniel O'Donnell's truck sinks with cargo of bricks

OWEY ISLAND: A lorry which sank off a Donegal island while attempting to deliver building materials to a holiday home for Irish singer and performer, Daniel O'Donnell, is to remain unsalvaged.

The vehicle was attempting to unload concrete blocks and other materials this week when it toppled over and plunged into the sea at Owey Island.

Mr O'Donnell's wife has been working on a cottage restoration on the tiny island where the singer's mother was born.

Salvage experts abandoned their attempts to lift the lorry from the water at low tide. Insurance experts believe it would cost more to salvage the lorry and its load than it would cost to replace them, said one local boat owner.

The accident happened when the truck was off the ferry on the slipway and the driver was about to lift its load with the truck-mounted crane attached to the lorry.
