MANCHESTER: Peel Group and Salford city council have announced plans for a new retail and leisure complex near the Trafford Centre which could create hundreds of jobs.

Peel, which owns MediaCityUK at Salford Quays, and the council aim to develop 43 acres of wasteland at Barton near the Salford City Stadium and the Manchester Ship Canal.

Their joint venture company is keen to see a variety of occupiers, from retail showrooms to hotels, restaurants and pubs.

Planning permission has already been granted for 230,000 sq ft of bulky goods retailing, which includes categories such as furniture, white goods, camping and DIY.
