Carl Kammerling International has announced that it is to sponsor employee Gerard Herbert, who is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this month to raise money for local charity, Cancer Aid.

Mr Herbert and his wife, Karen, will join four other climbers on a six-day hike, walking six to nine hours a day, culminating in a gruelling 15 hour trek on summit day.

Raising money for Cancer Aid, Mr and Mrs Herbert will be tackling the mammoth task of trekking the world’s highest freestanding mountain, at 5,895m. Helping support those whose lives who have been touched by cancer, the charity is very close to the couple’s heart.

The rest of the sponsorship money will be raised through a fundraising web page (www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/herbertkilimanjaro), customer sponsorship and word of mouth.

In addition to raising money for Cancer Aid, Mr Herbert will also be highlighting the CEF ‘Top of the World Competition’, capturing a shot of himself with the electrical wholesalers CKI Winter Promotion brochure at the summit.

Mr Herbert said: “Cancer Aid was very supportive when my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas, so Karen and I are extremely keen to support the charity. We are hugely grateful to Carl Kammerling for the sponsorship and support.”

Helen Halpin, chairman of Carl Kammerling International, added: “We are delighted to be able to support Gerard and Karen through this monumental challenge by sponsoring such a worthwhile cause.

“Carl Kammerling is continually looking for ways to support both the local community and its employees, and its sponsorship and support of this excellent cause is a testament to this.”
