MKM Building Supplies' Glasgow branch has raised nearly £1,000 for charity to celebrate its first year of trading.

The branch opened on 29 November 2013 and marked the anniversary with a party for hundreds of its customers.

The Nuneaton Street branch donated the cash to Action for Children Scotland, a charity that helps around 80,000 vulnerable children in the country each year.

Craig Miller of MKM Building Supplies in Glasgow said he was delighted by the support shown by customers in their first year of trading. "Thanks to the support this last year, we have been able to take on an additional eight staff and promote others in house. We also have three new delivery trucks on the road to cope with the demand of our products and services. We are truly grateful to them all. We may be a new, young branch in the MKM family, but here in Glasgow, you have made us the success we are, thank you."

More than 300 customers and suppliers of MKM attended the party which included the Mariachi 'Band Borritos' as well as a bar and casino.

A prize of an HD Plasma TV was awarded at the end of the night for the customers who won the biggest jackpot in the MKM Casino.

MKM Building Supplies is the UK's largest independent builders' merchant, which is headquartered in Hull and has 42 branches stretching from Perth in Scotland to Deal in Kent.
