As part of 50th anniversary celebrations, manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles has raised £2,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff from its two Burton-on-Trent factories and head office joined colleagues at the Lochmaben factory to enjoy a family fun day, attended by around 220 staff and families.

The tile factory yard was specially transformed by the team to incorporate an indoor children’s entertainment area.

As well as fundraising, Russell Roof Tiles laid on a whole afternoon of events for staff and their families. A bouncy castle, children’s entertainer, hog roast, penalty shoot-out competition and jousting contest were all staged to entertain guests. Fundraising efforts included a cake sale, raffle, quiz and the throwing of sponges at senior management trapped in stocks.

There was also the opportunity for attendees to take a tour of the hand fitting and utility plant.

Russell Roof Tiles’ 11-acre Lochmaben site, first founded in 1964 as the Annandale Tile Company, manufactures concrete roof tiles and accessories. In 2013, £250,000 was invested in upgrading the factory, increasing workforce numbers by 20%.

The daughter of the Annandale Tile Company founder, Mary Colburn (née Gibson), said: “I’m delighted that the team is celebrating 50 years since my father first established the factory.

“He would have been very pleased to see the festivities and that the company he founded is still going strong.”

Andrew Hayward, managing director at Russell Roof Tiles, said: “This is a very special year for the business and 2015 marks a huge milestone for the factory in Lochmaben.

“We’re very pleased that not only the staff who work so hard for the company enjoyed the event, but that we were able to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who provide such excellent support for the community.”
