MKM Building Supplies has appointed a new director of its Redcar branch.
Scott McCabe joins the company after spending more than 20 years in the DIY retail sector and working in the wholesale food industry.
Mr McCabe has worked across the north during his career, from Yorkshire up to Berwick-upon-Tweed, and said he would bring a mixture of retail and business-to-business experience to his new role.
He said: “Over the course of my career I have amassed a lot of experience that I feel will be of value to MKM. The bulk of my working life has been spent in retail and there’s an old saying that goes retail is detail. I always have an eye on detail, which will be as useful to the builders’ merchant sector as it is all other industries.
“My roles in the food industry was business-to-business and as such, taught me about developing business relationships, which will be valuable when working with our trade customers.”
Mr McCabe added that the builders’ merchant industry was a “challenging and dynamic” environment to work in, and that he has already implemented a strategy to develop the Redcar branch.
MKM Building Supplies Redcar serves both trade and retail customers from its Limerick Road site and is currently looking to expand product lines for both.
Mr McCabe concluded: “We have new signage going up soon and we are reviewing the layout of the branch to ensure every square foot is earning its right to be there. Next year we will be introducing a landscaping display, which will be ready for the new season, and we are refitting some of the back areas of the branch to add more products.
“The team at Redcar are dedicated, committed and very customer-focused. There is a lot going in the branch so it is a really exciting time to join the MKM family.”
