Huws Gray continues to expand after acquiring three companies in St Helens; ST Group, Qualplas and Cornerstone Building & Landscaping Products.

The Anglesey-headquartered builders’ merchant completed the deals at the end of January, making it six acquisitions in five months for the company.

ST Group is a timber and builders’ merchant with over 60 years of trading experience. Also part of the January acquisitions were Qualplas, ST Group’s sister company.

Andrew Smith, ST Group managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be leaving ST Group in such good hands. Our business was founded by my father-in-law Bill Jelley and since its’ early beginnings our dedicated team have worked hard to get to where we are today. I’m confident that Huws Gray will take the business forward to another level and build on the great reputation we have in St Helens.”

Huws Gray also acquired Cornerstone Building & Landscaping Products, which is an independent company, specialising in bricks and landscaping products.

James Woodyer, Cornerstone director, James, added: “I would like to thank all the loyal staff at Cornerstones for all their hard work during the last five years building a successful business from scratch and wish them every success in the future with Huws Gray.”

Huws Gray’s new presence in St Helens links in with the recent acquisitions in Formby (Merseyside) and Woodford (South Manchester), as well as the existing brick specialist centre in Warrington.

Huws Gray managing director Terry Owen concluded: “The St Helens acquisitions are exciting and come with new challenges for Huws Gray. They are excellent fits for us in terms of location and business potential. We are looking forward to developing the branches through a commitment to company values, which stress passion and energy for our work allied to training and development.”
