John Brash & Co has been included on a list of the top 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain.
The UK manufacturer of graded timber roofing battens, shingles & shakes, scaffold boards and commercial anti-slip decking has been included on the list compiled by London Stock Exchange Group in its third annual report of the fastest-growing and most-dynamic small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK.
John Brash, which employs 120 people at its Gainsborough manufacturing facility, has undergone a real change over the last two years, as it has been at the forefront of the biggest change to roofing rules for 50 years.
Chairman Christian Brash said: “John Brash is solely focused on the manufacture of our four core products to the highest possible standards. For example, we were the first UK company to CE Mark decking boards, when many in our industry said it couldn’t be done.
“To be included on the list of the top 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain is a fantastic accolade, and we like to think that it reflects all the hard work and sizable financial investment this company has made over the last couple of years.”
In the last 12 months, John Brash has installed Goldeneye, the only timber scanning line in Europe to grade timber roofing batten to the new British Standard for roofing. Its production levels are increasing month on month, and it now grades enough timber roofing batten to go from John O’Groats to Land’s End each week. The family-run company, which celebrated its 110th birthday last year, estimates that six out of ten homes in the UK have John Brash timber roofing batten on their roofs.
It has also invested to increase the capacity of its yard so that it can now accommodate 24 lorries at any one time – up from the previous limit of nine – and this means that, on average, a lorry full of John Brash leaves the factory every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day.
