MKM Building Supplies is the latest major partner of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 and is celebrating the announcement with an opportunity to recognise the city’s community heroes.

MKM and Hull 2017 are launching a campaign to commend Hull's finest, those who go above and beyond to help friends, colleagues and their communities. Under the Community Heroes scheme, people will be invited to nominate their chosen hero in a bid to win them recognition and an exciting prize.

Nominations made via http://heroes.mkmbs.co.uk will be considered by a panel of Hull 2017 and MKM representatives. Ten winners will receive tickets to see Rod Stewart in concert at the KC Stadium on 14 June, 2016.

MKM, which celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2016, put the concert together as a way of thanking the people of Hull for their support and custom. Proceeds will go to Hull charities The Daisy Appeal and Holy Trinity Church. The 25,000-ticket event is all but sold out.

David Kilburn, co-founder and executive chairman of MKM, said: “The people here are a huge part of what makes Hull a great place and the Community Heroes nominations will encourage their much-deserved recognition. The concert is a coup for Hull. Sharing it with some of the unsung heroes in our community in celebration of their generosity of spirit seems a fitting way to celebrate both our anniversary and the exciting plans that lay ahead for Hull 2017.

"Hull is where we were born and bred - our brand owes its success to the roots we put down here - so we are thrilled to work alongside Hull 2017 to be part of creating a lasting legacy for this great city."

Martin Green, chief executive officer and director of Hull 2017, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome MKM on board. I look forward to working with the team as a major partner of Hull UK City of Culture 2017, as MKM is a great example of a successful business that is rooted in Hull, with branches across the country. This partnership is sign of great confidence, not only in the people and city of Hull, but also in the enduring legacy of Hull UK City of Culture 2017."

Nominations for Community Heroes are now open and close at midnight on 20 May, 2016. They can be submitted via http://heroes.mkmbs.co.uk/.
