The new buying group for small- to medium-sized merchants formed by the acquisition of TBG by H&B has recruited its first new member.

JTD Building Supplies in Huddersfield become the first merchant to join the new buying group’s TBG development arm, which was specifically set up to help grow independent builders’ merchants that don’t currently meet the turnover threshold required to join a larger independent buying group.

Tony Sharkey, Managing Director of JTD, said: “Being the first merchant in the TBG development group is very exciting for our business. We are obviously looking to grow and the TBG development group provides the ideal platform to do this as efficiently and professionally as possible.”

TBG Managing Director Allan Durning added: “The idea of TBG is to support merchants to grow more cleverly. Tony’s business is an ideal example of the type of business that is a great fit and is exactly the type of business we are looking to attract.”

JTD’s recruitment comes just a couple of weeks after H&B Group announced its acquisition of TBG and its objective of attracting 25 new merchant members by 2018. The deadline for applications is the end of November.
