We are retained by a leading Timber merchant and importer who, due to continued success, are seeking to recruit a professional Purchasing Manager to join their team in the South West.

The role

Your role will be to build and maintain relationships with homegrown mills, agents & also with sawmills in Scandinavia, the Baltic States & Europe. You will be responsible for purchasing a complete range of timbers. The core products to be purchased are carcassing whitewood, a complete range of fencing timbers, joinery redwood in a variety of grades. Siberian Larch, Canadian Cedar and some specialist products such as laminated products and long length section timbers in a variety of species.

The Role

Established a network of key decision makers/influencers through the industry supply chain

You will be expected to work closely with both the sales and production teams and will b e required to meet the expectations of both with regard to quality, availability and price, whilst also working to agreed budgeted stock values.

Knowledge, Skills and experience required

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of purchasing in the sawmilling and wooden products industry
  • Current established network of key decision makers/influencers through the industry supply chain
  • Able to operate within clearly defined budgets
  • Experience of purchasing systems, procedures and controls
  • Knowledge of PEFC/FSC
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Relationship Building Skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Results Driven
  • Self motivated
