A contractor has raised almost £3,000 to help victims of modern slavery.

Birmingham based Colmore Tang Construction partnered with the Jericho Foundation at its annual conference, with 150 delegates raising a total of £2,570.

The charity supports victims of modern slavery and helps them to find jobs.

According to Jericho, labour exploitation is the most recorded type of modern slavery. The construction sector accounts for approximately 10% of total employment (approximately three million jobs) in the UK, making it one of the industries identified as high risk for labour exploitation.

The charity estimates that there are more than 13,000 individuals currently trapped in modern slavery, with Birmingham and the West Midlands having the highest concentration of survivors outside of London.

Local businesses work alongside the Jericho Foundation to offer work experience and on-the-job training. Its team of mentors help survivors to develop their skills, confidence, and employability.

Jericho’s CEO Richard Beard said: “To have the support of a major contractor like CTC is amazing. Not only are they helping to raise awareness of our work and modern slavery in construction, their generous donation will also help us to continue delivering our services to people in need.”

Andy Robinson, CEO of CTC, said: “When we learned about the Jericho Foundation’s fantastic work, we knew we had to get involved. We sincerely hope that our support will make a difference.”
