Customers and staff at a Swansea builder’s merchant have proved ‘great sports’ by raising more than £1,300 for a local hospice.

Selco Builders Warehouse held a raffle in its Llansamlet branch in aid of Ty Olwen, a hospice that cares for terminally ill people in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and district.

Entrants had the chance to win four hospitality tickets to Swansea City’s Boxing Day home match with Aston Villa, while a quartet of tickets were also up for grabs for Ospreys’ Pro 14 rugby match with Llanelli Scarlets.

The raffle raised £1,305 to help Ty Olwen continue to offer services including specialist palliative care for patients with complex care needs, support at Morriston Hospital, and community and day care service teams.

Warren Matthews, Branch Manager of Selco Swansea, said: “We are delighted to raise vital funds for Ty Olwen, which is renowned for doing outstanding work for the people of Swansea and surrounding areas.

“Our staff and customers were only too happy to support our sporting raffle and we hope it will make a real difference.”

Helen Murray, Chairwoman of Ty Olwen Trust, said: “We are hugely grateful to Selco for providing this wonderful donation.

“All of the money will go directly towards care and support for our patients and their families.”
