Millions raised for teenage cancer charity thanks to merchant partnership

Published:  20 November, 2018

Fundraising activities hosted by a partnership of plumbing merchants have raised £2 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.

City Plumbing teamed up with Plumbing Trade Supplies in 2012 to raise money for the Teenager Cancer Trust, which supports cancer patients aged 13-24. They have held a number of events over the years, including running and raft races, golf days and gala dinners, with employees and customers across the country taking part.

The total raised has now reached the £2 million mark, with more than £8,500 of that raised in just one day by the “Have Your Cake and Eat It” bake sale.

The money will make a huge difference, as £2 million is enough to maintain all of the Teenage Cancer Trusts hospital units for two years, including ongoing maintenance and repairs, or cover the cost of all of their expert nurses for almost 12 months.

Andrew Harrison, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Plumbing and Heating Division at Travis Perkins, said he “couldn’t be prouder” that the partnership has reached this milestone.

He said: “This shows what fantastic things can be achieved when the colleagues and customers of City Plumbing and PTS work together.

“The collective funds raised over the past seven years are potentially life changing for all the young people who have needed support from the charity.

“We're humbled to have been able to help and plans are already in place to continue adding to the figure throughout the next year.”

Rachael Garrett is one of the volunteer charity champions who stepped up to help organise and co-ordinate the fundraising activities. She said: “I am so proud to have been a part of such a great partnership.

“Hitting the £2 million is such an amazing accomplishment and I have seen first-hand what a difference it will make.”

Jess Coombs, Head of High Value Fundraising at Teenage Cancer Trust, added: “This continued and ongoing support means that we are ever closer to supporting every young person with cancer in the UK.

“On behalf of all of the young people we support, thank you to City Plumbing and PTS!”

Further events and fundraising activities are planned for the rest of 2018 and into 2019 as the relationship between City Plumbing, PTS and Teenage Cancer Trust continues.
