NEWPORT: Fire fighters tackled a blaze at a Terry Howell Builders' and Timber Merchants on Maesglas Retail Park at around 3.20am yesterday morning.

Water ladders from Duffryn, Maindee, Malpas and Cwmbran were on the scene, along with water bowsers from Aberdare, Barry and Caerphilly, and a hydraulic platform from Maindee were called to the scene.

A fire service spokeswoman said the blaze was under control at around 5.30am but three units were still at the site. The spokeswoman said investigations into the cause of the blaze were under way.
