A team of 30 walkers from Rudridge, along with its customers and suppliers, has raised over £7,000 after walking up to 50km in memory of a colleague.
Tony Marshall, who worked at the company’s Farnham branch for many years, suffered a fatal stroke in 2016. The company organised its F.A.S.T. Road to Rudridge event, named in recognition of the acronym that helps identify stroke symptoms and act on them (Face, Arms, Speech, Time), to support The Stroke Association.
The walkers could choose to trek one of five routes varying in length from 13km to 50km. Of the 32 participants, 25 completed the 50km route with 30 of the walkers making it to the finish line after two walkers had to withdraw due to minor injuries. All routes took in the beautiful scenery of the Downs Link Path and the North Downs Way, finishing at Badshot Lea FC’s new ground on Westfield Lane in Wrecclesham.
After completing the route, all walkers were treated to a well-earned pizza and awarded with their medal, which was presented by Rudridge’s Sales Director, Paul Duke.
He said: “I’m so proud of our team of amazing walkers and thank them for all their courage, determination and commitment they have put into completing this extremely tough challenge. There were some really difficult parts to the day, but I’m sure we will all go away with some great memories.
“Our goal was to do something together to not only commemorate Tony, but to raise money for a really important charity and increase awareness of stroke symptoms. I believe we have truly achieved this and the funds raised will make a big difference to The Stroke Association. Thanks to all our supporters and to those who helped on the day.
