SWITZERLAND: PPG Architectural Coatings UK has announced that it has settled its dispute with ICI regarding Johnstone's "Best by Test" advertising campaign and has agreed with ICI a practical framework for dealing with any comparative advertising issues that might arise in the future.

PPG defended a court action by ICI in respect of its "Best by Test" campaign last year. PPG strenuously denied ICI's claims and also launched a counterclaim against ICI challenging the claims made over many years by ICI in relation to the spread rates of Dulux Trade paints.

“The settlement represents an amicable resolution of all claims in dispute and provides a mechanism for both parties to compete in the trade paints market in an open and fair way, and to provide the best value to the consumer,” said Steve Pocock, general manager of PPG Architectural Coatings UK.

PPG remains committed to "Best by Test," which was a hugely successful advertising campaign for the company, and looks forward to further exciting "Best by Test" advertising campaigns in the future.

"Best by Test" remains an important advertising campaign for us, and we will continue to run "Best by Test" campaigns to enable our customers to make informed choices as to which paints are best suited for their decorating needs,” Steve Pocock said.
