LOUTH: Firefighters were praised for preventing a "catastrophe" after fire ripped through the Jewson store in Belvoir Way, on the Fairfield industrial estate.

Fire investigators concluded the cause of the fire was accidental, but have not said what the precise cause was. The blaze started around 5.30pm on Thursday and threatened to destroy the showrooms and the firm's warehouse, which contained large amounts of wood and paint.

Extensive damage was caused in the kitchen and bathroom showroom and to offices. Lincolnshire Fire And Rescue station manager, Neil Bunch said the fire was contained to the showrooms and mezzanine floor and offices.

The Jewson depot will re-open for business today.
