LONDON: The Worshipful Company of Builders' Merchants held its Annual Divine Service last month. The service took place at the Tower of London in the historic Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula.
The Reverend Roger Hall, chaplain of the Chapel Royal and honorary chaplain to the Company, conducted the service. The Chapel's choir, raised the roof with their outstanding voices.
WCBM master Gary Hopkins, past masters, wardens, members, the clerk and guests attended the service, followed by a "lively supper" and conversation at Trinity House.
The Annual Divine Service is one of the key events in the Company's calendar. Members attend the election court general meeting prior to the service for elections of the master, wardens and other officers and for an update on the Company's activities, including its application for a Royal Charter. It is hoped that this will be granted in 2012.
The aims of the WCBM are: to encourage professional and social interaction and the exchange of information between those concerned with the business of builders' merchanting; yo support and encourage UK builders' and plumbers' merchants, distributors and ancillary trades to bring about a thriving and prosperous industry through co-operation and interaction; to promote and increase its charitable fund so that the WCBM can continue to make sizable donations annually to encourage education and training within the industry as well as support the Lord Mayor's Appeal and a range of other charities.
