LONDON: Pimlico Plumbers, the UK's largest independent plumbing company, has reported increased record revenues and expanded its workforce in preparation for the autumn/winter period.

The company recruited an additional 20 plumbers and heating engineers to its workforce of 156 tradespeople during the summer.

Pimlico Plumbers achieved record sales in September 2011, a substantial 12.5% (£161 000) up on last year.

This success was partly attributed to the growth of the company's building works division with a number of projects being completed in September.

With the expansion of its workforce the company has been able to increase capacity to service the number of plumbing and heating jobs in the capital, which is forecast to increase during the coming months.

Year-on-year the number of winter call-outs has grown at Pimlico Plumbers. In December 2010, the company broke its record for daily and weekly call outs servicing 500 jobs on a single day (up from 440) and, in the first week of that month, completed a record 2017 jobs (up from 1930).

Pimlico Plumbers has also increased productivity through improved processes including GPS vehicle tracking.

Managing director Charlie Mullins, said: "September was an exceptional month for the business and justified our diversification into other home property services such as building works and electrics. Our reputation has enabled us to enter these markets with immediate customer confidence in our services.

"Our total annual sales for our financial year to-date running at £314000 – around 7% ahead of where we were last winter. And while I can't do anything about the conditions the country is going to be faced with in the coming months, I am starting to feel that we have a better and bigger team in the company this time round and we are in pretty good shape to take whatever the season throws at us."
