NORTH-EAST: GPH Builders Merchants has proved that the smallest of donations can go a long way by raising £1500 for charity from just loose change.

GPH raised the money over the past few years after customers and staff at the firm’s Westhill branch began throwing change into an upturned builders hat on the sales counter.

The company, which also has a branch in Inverurie, has been operating in the North-east for 30 years for both trade and retail customers and is passionate about the local community and supporting local causes.

The funds will be shared equally between Macmillian Cancer Support, Cornerstone and Bushbells, which were selected as beneficiaries by the staff and customers.

Sales and marketing director of GPH, Nikki Mortimer said: “The money was collected in store from small donations and we are all thrilled at the amount that we have raised for the charities. The money is going to great causes - the funds raised for Macmillian Cancer Support and Cornerstone will stay in the Grampian area, whereas the Bushbell Charity will help the maintenance of a school in Kenya.”
