NOTTINGHAM: Masons Timber Products has achieved PEFC accreditation and is now part of the world's largest forest certification system.
The decision was both ethical and commercial and company already is FSC approved for products that come largely from Sweden.
By sourcing PEFC timbers such as pine and spruce grown largely in Finland, it has now broadened its supplier base to remain competitive and source the quality required for its broad product range.
Head of sales and marketing, Pauline Morrison, said: “As early as 1997, we wanted to demonstrate an ethical commitment to the environment and to allow consumers to make responsible purchasing decisions, we worked hard to obtain FSC certification at that time. We have continued the process further and have now secured PEFC status, too.
“For the merchant, selling certified materials through the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Chain of Custody (CoC) system allows full tracking of product, demonstrates eco-commitment, and helps customers to make environmentally responsible buying decisions. We want to encourage our customers to follow suit in choosing timber from sustainable sources.
“We are allowed to use both PEFC and FSC labels on our products and in product marketing to highlight responsible sourcing of the raw material.”
Masons also joined the Timber Trade Federation for 2012 as one of a number of initiatives to further strengthen the brand and grow sales. It is one of the UK's leading manufacturers of timber home improvement products operating within the DIY retail, merchant and manufacturing sectors.
