Staff, customers and suppliers at Kent Blaxill will be embarking on a 175-mile charity bike ride on 12 September, as one of the events being staged to celebrate the firm’s 175th anniversary.
Riding in 14 teams, more than 50 cyclists will take part in the ‘KB 175 Tour de Branch’ visiting all of the company’s eight branches during a relay that works out at 175 miles.
Cyclists will include Kent Blaxill managing director Simon Blaxill and his son Josh, board member Ben Kent, as well as Chris Hobrough, Richard Cutter and Stephen Marshall from the Colchester branch; James Park and Kris Towells from the Ipswich branch; and Chris Peverett from the Bury St Edmunds branch.
Money raised will go to the CLIC Sargent charity, which supported a young Kent Blaxill employee who sadly died recently of cancer. “It is a charity close to the hearts of a lot of people at the company after the fantastic support it provided,” said Mr Blaxill.
Riders will leave Braintree at 6am on Thursday 12th September, travelling on to branches at Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, Norwich, Melton, Ipswich and Kirby before taking on the last leg back to the Colchester branch by 7.30pm.
Other teams participating come from Kent Blaxill customers – including Horizon Construction, Rose Builders, Yates Developments and TJ Evers.
Manufacturers and suppliers taking part in the ride include main sponsor Crown Trade, as well as Stoneham Kitchens, Expamet, Ibstock, Rixonway, Global Stone, All About Bricks, XL Joinery and Tembe DIY.
“The event is not intended to be a race, but as a challenge and a chance for all who are participating to enjoy the landscape of the East Anglian countryside as well as raising some money for CLIC Sargent,” said Mr Blaxill.
