The Travis Perkins Group has claimed the title of ‘Transport Supplier of the Year’ at the London Transport Awards for the safe and efficient delivery of materials to the Crossrail infrastructure project.

To fulfil the requirements of the numerous Crossrail construction sites, Group brands Keyline and Travis Perkins comply with stringent regulations while ensuring deliveries are sourced and delivered at the right time, to the correct locations, and always in full.

As key suppliers, Keyline and Travis Perkins conduct all Crossrail deliveries using a fleet of compliant vehicles. Each vehicle has a wide-range of safety, security and performance features including side sensors, white noise reversing alarms, a reversing camera, unbreakable mirrors, Fresnel Lenses, a load security system and vehicle tracking.

The Group manages operations via the Keyline National Rail Office. The department ensures that all transport, safety and compliance measures from Crossrail, Transport for London (TfL), Network Rail and London Underground are met.

Keyline and Travis Perkins are recognised as Gold standard operators in line with the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), managed by TfL in order to promote lawful working and best practice.

The award also recognised the significant investment made in training to ensure that each driver meets PPE and operational standards, while key performance indicators relate to idling reduction and mpg improvement, reducing CO2 to make the fleet more environmentally friendly.

Kieran Griffin, managing director of Keyline, said: “There is no doubt that Crossrail is one of the most exciting and ambitious infrastructure projects this country has ever seen. We are extremely proud to have been recognised by the London Transport Awards for the work we have carried out on a project of such magnitude. We place safety and compliance at the heart of our business, not only by investing in the latest ground breaking technology to improve our vehicles, but also through the delivery of world-class training. Each and every new Keyline vehicle is upgraded to match Crossrail’s higher-level compliance standards, irrespective of where the vehicle will be based. Our commitment in this area, which includes the launch of the Safer Roads campaign, is crucial behind our success.”

Dave Davis, Travis Perkins regional sales director for the East, added: “The Travis Perkins Group, especially our network of drivers across Travis Perkins and Keyline, have had to work incredibly hard to meet the level of compliance required to meet Crossrail standards. We’re incredibly proud of the recognition this award represents and for contributing to one of London’s greatest infrastructure success stories.

“I believe Travis Perkins’ success not only lies in our expert staff but in the incredibly high standards of health and safety communicated across the Group through our ‘Stay Safe’ initiative. Backed by a number of specifically developed ‘Golden Rules’, our teams are able to not only meet the mandatory requirements but surpass them through additions such as satellite vehicle tracking, on-board weigh scales, and brick grab modification. This is backed by our focus on service; propositions such as a dedicated rail office and a Gold standard in the FORS, were essential in taking home this title.”
