Online trade register I Need An Expert has made several updates to its website, including extending its service to independent builders’ merchants.

Free to join, with no lead fees or subscriptions, www.ineedanexpert.co.uk is home to more than 8,000 trade experts and gives them the ability to showcase their work, get found online and win more business. Along with giving the website a fresh new look, it has now pledged to help independent builders’ merchants connect and support trades in their area.

“We knew we were onto something special when we started talking to trades about what we were planning to build,” explained founder Adam Callow. “The level of support has been fantastic from trades and consumers who have helped us shape the site.

“After meeting over a dozen independent merchant owners, it became clear how we can work together to support the industry and those in it. We know who our members are, what they buy, why, and when. Combine this with local merchants’ ability to shape their offering to what is in demand, and it becomes very powerful.”

He added: “The reasoning behind the decision to work with independents was simple really; I have first hand experience seeing the level of support they offer their customers and I have no doubts that the partnerships we develop in the future will only strengthen this. We want to deliver great value the trades in our community and those independents that we partner with allow us in a way that benefits everyone.”

The website collects data from its community of trades throughout the year. Individual response data is never shared with a third party, the company assures.

“When you aggregate all this data, you get clear insight into buying patterns, down to either a specific trade or area level,” said Mr Callow. “The best bit of all is that it’s a win-win for everyone. Trades get a service from us, free for life, along with tailored products from their suppliers based on their needs.”

The new pledge also vows never to run two competing ads, so two builders’ merchants can’t run ads on the same postcode area. This is to ensure all partners get the most value out of the relationship.
