The merchanting Industry is being urged to inspire the younger generations and show support for the work of the Maddie Rose Campaign.

The Maddie Rose Campaign has announces that this year's edition of Maddie’s Day will take place on Friday 20 September 2024.

The campaign is dedicated to inspiring and supporting young people to discover careers in the supplier and merchanting sector and the broader construction and built environment industry. It has raised over £155,000 since it was founded in 2021 – funds that have supported the work of Construction Youth Trust (CYT) and contributed to:

  • providing careers awareness and employability support for 58,972 young people, 73.3% of whom were from groups underrepresented in construction.
  • delivering sessions in 94 schools/colleges, 88.4% of which have above-average free school meal eligibility.
  • assisting 1,445 young people into Education, Employment, or Training (EETs).
  • dispensing intensive coaching to 2,836 young people.

In addition, the Maddie Rose Campaign has initiated the development of CYT programmes to directly support young people develop an interest in the merchanting sector:

Hidden Careers in the Supplier and Merchanting Sector is a programme launched in 2022 and aimed at shining a spotlight on the variety of roles available in the sector, suited to a wide-reaching range of interests and skill levels. 

Negotiation Skills taps into the skills needed to succeed in the world of business. The programme was aunched in 2023, with the ability to extend it with further business modules.

Maddie’s Day is presented as an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments, spread awareness, and get everyone involved in making a difference.

To participate and support Maddie’s Day, members of the industry are invited to:

  • Light Up Social Media:
    Show your support by filling social media feeds with Maddie Rose Campaign posts. Change your profile picture to the campaign logo and use the brand colour yellow.
     
  • Wear Yellow:
    Encourage your team to wear yellow on Maddie’s Day. With Maddie’s Day falling in the same week as BMF Members’ Day, encourage all attendees to wear yellow on the morning of Friday 20th September. Let’s turn the event into a sea of yellow to show our solidarity and support!
     
  • Use the Communications Pack:
    There is a handy Communications Pack with everything you need - branding materials, logos, and suggested content to post in the lead-up to Maddie’s Day.
