ERA is consistently exploring and implementing new ways of not only reducing waste produced by its manufacturing operations.

ERA, one of the UK’s leading home security and fenestration component providers, has launched its new pallet recycling scheme, as part of its sustainability commitments.

In a bid to reduce waste to landfill, ERA has partnered with local Midlands company Ian Wootton Pallets & Packing Cases to introduce the scheme, which will prevent circa of 60 tonnes of disposed pallet wood from going to waste each year.

Instead, the disposed pallets, which are used as part of ERA’s manufacturing operations, will be recycled and rebuilt as new, or turned into smaller wooden crates which will then be supplied for use by other local businesses.

ERA is part of Tyman UK & Ireland divison and this scheme supports the group’s 2030 Sustainability Roadmap, which aims to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2026.

As part of these plans, ERA is consistently exploring and implementing new ways of not only reducing waste produced by its manufacturing operations, but also implementing wider strategies to support a more sustainable industry in the coming years.

This latest initiative follows the approval of Tyman UK & Ireland’s Science-based Targets by the Science-based Targets Initiative earlier this year, which has seen the group commit to reducing its absolute scope 1 and scope 2 Greenhouse Gas emissions by 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and reduce its absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 27.5% within the same timeframe.

Lara Couthino, Sustainability Programme Manager at Tyman UK & Ireland, said: “The fenestration industry has undergone significant changes with regards to sustainability in recent years, and ERA is focused on developing new solutions that continue to push this progress even further.

“We are proud to be working towards a circular economy through the sharing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling of materials used during our manufacturing process, and the fact that this new scheme supports local businesses is a huge bonus.

“This latest initiative is just one of many that we are excited to implement, and reflects our unwavering commitment to a more sustainable future for our industry.”
