For over 140 years, Helly Hansen has made professional-grade gear to help people stay and feel alive in the harshest conditions.

As a leader in premium workwear, the brand draws on the experience and insight of professionals to create gear they can trust to keep them safe and protected, while also maximising comfort for long days on the job. For Winter 2022, Helly Hansen is taking their multinorm category to the next level with the new Fyre collection, featuring a newly engineered fabric that delivers maximum comfort without compromising safety and protection.

Over three years in the making, Helly Hansen’s designers have been working closely on the new collection, finetuning each detail and ensuring that all safety certifications are in place. The design team worked alongside Daletec, a trusted Norwegian producer of flame retardant fabrics, to develop a new high-quality, 2-way stretch fabric that offers optimal comfort with an improved fit and a lighter weight, replacing the stiff and heavy fabric that is typically found in multinorm products. Each new garment in the Fyre collection features this new fabric, which recently received the Best Fabric & Fibre Innovation 2021 award from the Professional Clothing Industry Association Worldwide. Composed of modacrylic, cotton and polyamide, the garments are naturally flame retardant and, with a focus on being more responsible, each Fyre product uses a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment.

With safety being vital within the multinorm category, each new product has also been tested and certified to meet strict industry requirements, including hi-vis and antistatic standards. A pinnacle piece of the new collection, the Fyre Jacket (£250) is durable, abrasion-resistant and certified for a welding standard, offering protection from small splashes of molten metal and limited contact with flame and radiant heat. The jacket is also loaded with technical features including:

  • A radio loop on the shoulder, which was a direct result of professional feedback, as they often need to carry multiple phones and devices to be well-connected in case of emergencies.
  • Articulated sleeves for optimal mobility.
  • Adjustable cuffs and hem with an elastic drawcord inside the hand pocket.
  • Tested against thermal hazards of an electric arc and achieved 9 calories in EBT rating.
  • A number of certifications: EN ISO 20471:2013+A1:2016, EN ISO 11612:2015, EN ISO 11611:2015, EN 1149-5:2018 and IEC 61482-2:2018.

“We are really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve with the new Fyre collection, and we’re excited to be launching it after years of working hard to find the right fabric and ensuring all the certifications would be met,” said Andreas Pohl-Larsen, Product Director, Helly Hansen Workwear. “Typically, multinorm products are stiff and even uncomfortable. We saw a need to modernise these products with an upgraded fabric and fit to improve comfort without compromising safety and protection, and we look forward to launching more Fyre styles in future seasons.”

The Fyre Jacket will be available alongside the Fyre Work Pant and Construction Pant in Q1 2023.
