More than £8,500 has been raised to share between the nominated charities of the year.

James Burrell Builders Merchants has raised more than £8,500 to share between its nominated charities of the year, Butterwick Hospice Care and 4Louis.

James Burrell staff participated in various fundraising events, including running the Great North Run, a charity walk across the County Durham countryside, a coffee morning and collecting donations from fundraising buckets in all of their ten branches.

The family-owned company is very passionate about contributing to the local community in which it operates. As a trusted independent builders' merchant James Burrell believe that it’s right to give back to local people.

Staff raised over £4,250 – a figure matched by the company bringing the total up to £8,535. All money raised will be shared equally between both charities. Half will go to Butterwick Hospice Care, a charity who aim to improve the life of those who have a palliative or life limiting diagnosis and support them to have the best life possible in the time they have left. And the remaining 50% will go to 4Louis, a UK charity that works across the country to support anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and the death of a baby or child.

Kelly Foster, Marketing Manager, said: “Covid-19 and the lockdown has made it difficult to engage in our normal fundraising activities, however we were able to raise a fantastic amount of money with the support and generosity of our staff, customers and suppliers. A huge thank you to everyone who helped along the way. Our chosen charities do such amazing work, we hope our donations will make a real difference to two very worthy causes.”
