COVENTRY: Jewson, supplier of timber and building materials, is partnering with Corby Borough Council to provide the council with the building materials to support its reactive repair and maintenance programmes across the existing 8500 housing stock.

The partnership will reduce the Council's costs by 11% through streamlining the supply chain. The 'one-stop-shop' approach includes ready access to all timber and building materials, imprest van stock management and invoice consolidation, all of which will generate cost savings that can be reinvested into front-line activity.

Jewson's imprest van stock management service will ensure that the Council's 50 vans and 60 operatives are equipped to provide a 'first fix approach' on all of its contracts throughout the area. A bespoke trade counter dedicated to Corby Borough Council will also ensure that Council operatives have instant access to a Jewson representative and additional building materials when required.

In support of the Council's commitment to sustainable construction, Jewson will manage the supply of all timber under its Chain of Custody (CoC) certification service which guarantees that all timber supplied originates from forests that have been legally harvested as part of a forest management system. In addition, the van stock management service will bring about a significant reduction in lorry miles and reduce carbon emissions.

Jewson will also supply general building materials, ironmongery, specialist doors and gates, in addition to plumbing equipment provided through Graham, its sister company.

Andrew Tait, Jewson director for the public sector, said: "With consolidated invoicing, sharing knowledge and best practice, Jewson is helping Corby Borough Council to meet the needs of its existing and future customers and we're pleased to be able to provide a tailored service."

According to Angela Warburton, Corby Borough Council's assistant chief executive: "It was important for the Council to deliver value for money without affecting the quality of both product and service delivery. We also wanted to streamline the volume of incoming invoices and their associated administration costs.

"The Council found it refreshing to find an organisation like Jewson with the flexibility, commitment and drive to support the delivery of aspirational improvements to the service delivery."
