Our client is a leading Timber Importer and due to expansion and internal promotion they are seeking Softwood Product Manager to become a central part of the team.

The role combines ‘front-end” commercial element of the business with significant purchasing responsibilities, alongside the commercial sales part of the business, where there will be substantial interaction with the sales, sales management and senior leadership team. Reporting to: MANAGING DIRECTOR  

The role requires a highly driven and motivated individual who can make a significant impact and increase product sales and supplier relationships to both existing and new customers.  The successful individual will be involved in all aspects of the business and product management. You will focus on developing our clients existing product portfolio and recommend new ones for them to bring to the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishing and nurturing new supplier relationships
  • Assist in the development and implementation of operational guidelines and objectives for the product portfolio  
  • Communicate with Operations Team to ensure accurate and efficient receiving and dispatch of goods
  • Managing and nurturing an existing portion of the current softwood supply base
  • Agreeing specifications and buying prices
  • Liaising with relevant shipping and logistical stakeholders to organize and schedule goods in
  • Working within existing frameworks and process to achieve desired levels of inventory
  • Developing and improving stock control / stock management within senior team
  • Introducing new products in coordination with management team 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills   
  • Excellent presentation skills, and comfortable presenting to both individuals and groups 
  • A strong background history of working in Sales and /or product management  
  • Be able to analyse market trends, develop sales, price and profitability strategies, and to recommend improvements and increase revenue
  • Effective communication skills
  • Customer focused with sound commercial skills.
  • Good IT skills & PC literate
  • Commercial acumen for interpreting the market to make buying decisions
  • Knowledge of softwood products and market sectors
