For every builder’s merchant, product knowledge is key to understanding customers’ needs and requirements for their next project.

However, with so many products on the market, particularly in the tiling and decorating sectors, each for different applications and with varying qualities, it can be increasingly difficult for merchants to stay ahead of the game.

While on-site product training is great in providing basic product knowledge to merchants and their staff, recommending the right type of product and quantity of product suitable for more complex projects can be trickier.

To give merchants and their customers top-notch product knowledge in a quick and effective way, whether it’s for a complex tiling project such as waterproofing a wetroom or a straightforward decorating job such as filling in a rawlplug hole, we have recently relaunched Dunlop Job Build – an online product selector tool.

Free and easy to use, Dunlop Job Build is available in the Trade Zone at www.dunloptrade.com. Mobile-friendly, Dunlop Job Build can quickly answer queries; the components of which can be selected from a wide list of variables.

To get started chose what type of project you are carrying out, either tiling or decorating. If you are tiling, you’ll be asked to select what surface you’re tiling onto, your areas of application (e.g. kitchen), background and type of tiles. For decorating preparation products you’ll need to select the areas of damage, background and type of finish (wallpaper, paint etc.)

When each component of the project has been selected, the tool will provide you with a selection of products. From here you can enter the dimensions of your job for product quantities if you wish. It’s as easy as that.

Helping customers to maximise products is key to building long and lasting relationships; if merchants are armed with relevant information, they can offer professional tradespeople a more valuable and quality service.
