The Best Trade Association, Best Celebratory Event award recognised the inaugural Top 100 Merchants Influencers, organised by the BMF and BMN.

The Builders Merchants Federation and BMN have won the Best Trade Association, Best Celebratory Event - in recognition of the inaugural Top 100 Merchants Influencers at the Memcom Excellence Awards held last night (Tuesday 26 September).

The Memcom Excellence Awards celebrate innovation and creativity in UK Trade Associations and Professional Membership Organisations.

The campaign beat off competition from eight other companies to take home the award: Association of British Professional Conference Organisers, Chartered Institute of Credit Management, Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, Chartered Management Institute, DataIQ, Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management, Logistics UK and STEP.

The Top 100 Merchant Influencers were featured in a special commemorative brochure and invited to a Gala Dinner in May 2022, at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, for an evening of celebration.

To make the Top 100 Merchant Influencers list, key criteria in four specific categories had to be reached:

  • Involvement
  • Presence
  • Charity and community work
  • Commitment to the Industry as a whole.

The individual must work for a company that supplies products or services to builders’ merchants, be involved with buying groups and trade associations and attend industry events. They must actively engage with the industry on social media and have a presence within their community through fundraising and charitable work. Any committed to training and promoting the industry to the next generation also made them eligible.

Nominees were put forward by the many different buying groups who have come together in an industry first, to recognise the dedication and talent on the supplier side.

The BMF was also shortlisted in three other categories of - the Best Trade Association, Best Use of Data – acknowledging the BMF’s Builders Merchants Building Index – while BMF CEO John Newcomb was up for Memcom CEO Leadership Award.

The Award winners were unveiled at a glitzy ceremony at the Hilton Bankside in London.

The new event was launched in front of hundreds of businesses across the construction sector at the BMF's annual conference at the Birmingham NEC today (Thursday 21 September).

Building on the success of the Top 100 Merchant Influencers and the Top 100 Supplier Influencers it is now time to look at the young achievers in the industry. Those who are rising through the industry and making their mark on the sector.

The Top 100 Young Achievers will be celebrated at a black-tie gala dinner on the 16 May 2024, at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield.
