Wolseley UK has achieved Carbon Trust Standard recertification in recognition of its work to measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions.

The Carbon Trust certified that Wolseley UK reduced its absolute carbon emissions by 32.8 percent between August 2010 and July 2012. Its qualitative assessment score of 82.5 percent demonstrated “effectiveness at responding to climate change through governance, carbon accounting, and carbon management”.

Wolseley UK’s latest environmental projects have included a trial to redesign branch lighting and replace bulbs with LED lights, which resulted in site electricity reductions of up to 60 percent.

A routing system that enables efficient use of vehicles and plans delivery routes has also been rolled out across the company’s fleet.

Rebecca Lascelles, environmental advisor at Wolseley UK, said: “Reducing our carbon footprint isn’t a single project with a finite end-date. We continually strive for environmental excellence, employing the latest green-thinking to cyclically implement, monitor and assess. We’re proud to have been recognised by the Carbon Trust for our ongoing work in this area.”

Achieving Carbon Trust Standard means that Wolseley UK becomes a ‘Standard Bearer’ for the Carbon Trust.
