UK: Following the success of its iPhone app, Wood Campus will launch an Android version in December. At the same time, five new modules will be added – calculating quantities, profiles for mouldings, aftercare and treatment, treated timber and an introduction to span tables. These join the initial modules on cladding, decking, fire doors, flooring, sheet materials and windows.

The app, specially designed for professionals working with wood, such as builders, acts as the ‘expert in your pocket’. It provides key information in a straightforward way, including a ’90-second know-how’ video and links to suppliers and further information sources. Like the Wood Campus, it will be regularly updated and added to.

The app complements the Wood Campus, which offers a wide range of information sources across most aspects of timber use, including TRADA Choose & Use builders’ factsheets, Fast Track CPD, full length CPD modules, such as the Merchant modules and a full management tracking system to allow larger companies to manage their staff’s learning progress.

Wood Campus is a Buildbase, Jewson and Swedish Wood initiative on behalf of the timber industry. Co-operative partners include The Timber Decking and Cladding Association, Wood for Good, TRADA and the Wood Window Alliance.

New members for 2013 include Timbmet, W Howard, American Softwoods, NWTTA (the North West Timber Trade Association) and the British Woodworking Federation.
