INVERRURIE: Fred Taylor, a director at Aberdeenshire builders' merchants GPH is stepping down after 33 years. He retires after spending the majority of his career with the firm, which has branches in Inverurie and Westhill.

Mr Taylor, 65, began working for parent company J H Connon in 1978 as a lorry driver, before moving to manage the newly created Garioch Plant Hire in 1982.

The company became GPH Builders Merchants and Mr Taylor was appointed company director in November 2004.

GPH managing director, Mike Maclellan, said: "Fred has played an integral part in the GPH team over the years. He is a Rothienorman chap and is a well-known face in the area so he has built some great relationships with all of his GPH team and customers."
