Huws Gray has marked its 25th birthday by donating £25,000 to children's hospices.

The independent merchant has chosen six children's hospices as its dedicated charities for 2015. It is also holding fundraising activities to raise further funds. The money will be divided between the hospices, which are located around the firm's branch network.

The hospices are Tŷ Gobaith, Hope House, Claire House, Derian House, Donna Louise and Acorns.

Huws Gray's £25,000 donation, as well as its 2015 fundraising, will assist the hospices in making sure that seriously ill children and young people, as well as their families, receive the best possible care and support whenever and wherever they need it.

Senior area fundraiser for Hope House, Eluned Yaxley said: "This is a fantastic start to the year for us; we are truly delighted with such a kind donation from Huws Gray. The funding will help us throughout 2015 to support and care for seriously ill children and their families. We look forward to working with Huws Gray throughout this exciting year."

Huws Gray managing director, Terry Owen, said: "To support this worthwhile cause is something very special for us as a company. It enables us to give something back to the communities that have supported us over the past 25 years. We ask for the support of our customers, friends, suppliers and families to help us raise as much essential funding as possible throughout the year."

Huws Gray will be donating prizes including a brand new Vauxhall Vivaro van, £3,000 worth of kitchen and bathroom vouchers, and £1,000 of high street vouchers to its anniversary raffle. Tickets cost £1 and will be on sale between April and October. All proceeds will go to the hospices.

Other fundraising activities scheduled for the next 12 months include taking part in the Anglesey Half Marathon, a sky dive and raft races.
