The completion of a 151km charity cycle challenge by two PDS directors has been celebrated by Springhill Hospice, the recipients of £11,140 in sponsorship money.

Tim Fairley, managing director of the window and doorset manufacturer, and Pat Rice, commercial director, crossed the finishing line of the northern Italian course, Granfondo Stelvio Santini, on Sunday 7 June.

Months of early morning training sessions and weekend-long cycles paid off, with financial and emotional support from suppliers, colleagues, friends and family spurring them on.

On completing the route the pair announced their achievement on Twitter, taking in the view at the top of the Stelvio and photographing Springhill Hospice mascot ‘Springy’, who accompanied them on their excursion.

Mr Rice, PDS , said: “[A] long hot day in the saddle, but job done now. The thought of the money and not letting you guys down kept us going.”

A spokesperson for Springhill Hospice said: “Your fundraising is just phenomenal. We are honoured to have your support.”
