Ideal Boilers has declared itself ready for the EU's Energy related Products (ErP) directive, which will come into force on 26 September, 2015.

The company’s research & development and quality assurance teams have been working with suppliers, preparing and testing products to ensure they meet the requirements of the new directive, while customer service and technical assistance staff have been trained on how they can help installers comply.

The ErP directive applies to energy-consuming products as well as non-energy-consuming products that affect how energy is used. It is designed to help the EU achieve its target to reduce energy use by 20% and increase the share of renewable energies by 20% by 2020.

Domestic product manager, Adam Foy, who joined the company in September 2014, is leading the final preparations in the countdown to ErP implementation and has been representing Ideal at the Plumb Center ErP Roadshows, which have been taking place around the country in recent months.

Mr Foy said: “It has been really valuable to get out on the road and meet installers who are keen to know more about ErP and its implications for their businesses. The installers who came along were reassured that, for the majority of their installations, the process would be straightforward.

“We were able to show that while there might be instances where they will have to do some energy efficiency calculations and produce a system label, much like those already used on domestic white goods, Ideal has already done most of the work for them and, should there be any queries, is there with advice, tools and support.

“We received some questions about ‘more paperwork’, but any worries were quickly quashed when they saw how simple and quick the paperwork will be to complete.

“A number of installers were interested in specific product information and could see how they will be able to use the energy-efficiency focus of ErP to help their customers get more from their heating systems and use the opportunity to upsell more sophisticated controls.

“It has been great to be able to let installers know that Ideal Boilers’ entire range of products including controls are fully ErP compliant and that Ideal has the expertise, tools and systems in place to support installers as they get to grips with ErP in time for September.”
