Huws Gray has announced its first-ever acquisition in the south Manchester area, having recently completed the purchase of Stockport-based Brick Market (trading as Woodford Building and Plumbing Supplies).

The independent builders’ merchant now employs 570 employees in 47 different trading locations, with the addition of the new Stockport branch significantly strengthening the company’s presence in the North West.

Dewi Morris, director of Huws Gray, said: “We’ve been looking to add to our branch network in the Manchester area for some time now, and this acquisition can’t come at a better time for us. This will significantly help to strengthen Huws Gray’s brand awareness in the North West, and also introduce our presence in south Manchester. We’re looking forward to build on the fantastic work that the Jenkins family have done here and further develop the branch alongside the existing team in 2016 and beyond.”

Established in 2000, Brick Market offers high-quality materials and serves all areas of south Manchester. Mr Jenkins, director at Brick Market, added: “As a family firm we’ve had great success over the last 15 years and have invested heavily in the property and stock. We’re delighted to be leaving the business in such good hands as Huws Gray is looking to improve and invest even further. We’re excited to see what’s in store for Brick Market under the Huws Gray umbrella.”

Terry Owen is excited about Huws Gray’s plans for 2016. He said: “As a company we are always looking to invest in our existing branch network, as well as adding new locations, so that we can keep pushing the company forward. We anticipate making further announcements in 2016 with a view to further strengthening our presence throughout the North West, the Midlands and throughout Wales. We’d like to thank all of our customers, employees and suppliers for the key roles they have all played in helping Huws Gray get to where we are today.”
